RE: Storing 50A detachable cord

I store my 50 amp cable in a Rubbermaid storage box that's about 3 1/2x1 1/2x1 1/2. The box has a hinged lid and it fits in the bed of the truck. I haven't worried about it being stolen because when the trailer is hooked up there is no way to get the box out of the truck and when the trailer is off I have a Bedlocker bed cover.

The use of Winfield RV Products' braces on your front landing gear and rear sissor jacks will eliminate all side-to-side movement. They recommend use of BAL Deluxe Locking Wheel Chocks to eliminate any front-to-back movement. I can tell you that the use of their braces and the chocks will make your unit rock solid. As I mentioned the braces are mounted using existing holes and do not require any drilling. I learned about these braces at a Titanium Owner's rally just a few months ago. Scott, the company owner was at the rally and demonstrated the braces to the attendees. Based on his demonstration he probably sold and installed his braces on at least 10 trailers. The braces are fantastic. The company is located in Poway, CA.

To eliminate the need to drill any holes check out the stabilizers made by Winfield RV Products. Their stabilizers mount using the existing holes in your front landing gear and sissor jacks. Vey easy to install and will make your unit rock solid. The web site is www.winfieldrvproducts.com.

The license I got after I passed the trailer endorsement test was a class A with a Trailer Coach (not for hire) endorsement.

Here is the specific information that I copied from the California DMV's Recreational Vehicles and Trailers Handbook. This information was on the Calfornia DMV web site.
"Recreational Trailer Endorsement
A driver must have a fifth-wheel recreational trailer endorsement added to his/her Class C driver license to pull a fifth-wheel recreational trailer over 10,000 lbs., but not over 15,000 lbs. GVWR, which is not used for hire. This endorsement is not required if the driver has a Class A or Noncommercial Class A driver license.
There is no fee unless your license expires within six months.
You will take a law test for a noncommercial Class A license based on the information contained in this booklet. You must also pass the Class C law test unless you qualified for a Class C license within the past twelve months.
You are not required to submit a Health Questionnaire.
You are not required to take a driving test to add a Recreational Trailer endorsement to your current license.
No other tests are required."
I just took this test earlier this month. Before taking the test I got a paper copy of the Recreational Vehicle and Trailers Handbook to study. I also identified the page that the above infomation was on and highlighted it. This was very useful when I got to the DMV and the person wasn't sure what needed to apply and get tested for the endorsement. Actually, I had to show several people throughout the process the handbook so that they could figure out what was needed.
In addition to reading the handbook I would suggest taking the sample tests that are on DMV's web site. The sample tests really helped me in answering the test questions correctly.
Although it was a "pain" to study for and get tested I think that I learned many things that will be helpful to me when I'm towing my fifth wheel.

I don't think there's any way to avoid the smoke during your trip. The best route would probably be to take I-5 down. This doesn't get you out of the smoke, but is the most direct route and would get you out of the smoke the quickest.

Just returned to Sacramento, CA via Interstate 80 from spending a weekend at the Sparks Marina RV Park. The road is better from the NV state line to Truckee, but there is still quite a bit of rough road east of Truckee.

If you don't need hook ups the county parks in Bodega Bay are nice places. The state parks at Lake Oroville are nice. One of the parks has hook ups and the other only has water.

I purchased the Surge Gard from Camping World. It seems like cheap insurance against a low or high power problem that would damage the delicate electronics in the newer TV, computers and other electric appliances in our trailers.

Didn't try straps to stabilize the front landing gears. I bought a set of braces from Winfield RV Products. They are easy to install using existing mounting holes and are very simple to adjust and tighten. Check them out at www.winfieldrvproducts.com. They also make braces for sissor jacks too. Use of braces in the front and rear if you have sissor jacks in conjunction with B&L wheel chocks will make your unit rock solid. The company also makes an attachment for your landing gear legs that you can use if the ground is uneven and you need just a small amount of difference between your legs.

Check out the braces made by Winfield RV Products at www.winfieldrvproducts.com. They make braces for the front landing gear and sissor jacks that are completely bolt on using existing holes. These braces in combination with B&L Tire Chocks will eliminate all front to rear and side to side movement.

RE: Hwy 101

I think the northern most portion of Hwy 1 in California where it cuts east to Leggett and Hwy 101 is pretty windy. If you go up Hwy 1 I would consider using Hwy 20 to Willits and then taking Hwy 101 from there. It avoids the real windy part and will also take you through the Redwoods.

RE: Hwy 1 NB from Bodega Bay to Mendicino KOA to Ft Bragg

Highway 1 from Bodega Bay to Mendocino is narrower and windier than Hwy 20. If I remember there are a number of switchbacks that are pretty tight. Although the scenery is terrific along the coast I would avoid the stress by using Hwy 101 and then cutting over onto Hwy 20 at Willits.

I have to drive past and back down too. I've niticed that the tires are scuffing when I making the turn to start backing down. I don't think there's anything I can do to avoid it. I'm sure it's putting a lot of stress on the bearings too. I think it's probably happening a lot when I'm driving forward too, but I just don't notice it as much.

Is your movement side to side,front to back or both? If the movement is front to back then a good set of wheel chocks such as BAL will work. If the movement is side to side, do you have sissor jacks on the back of your unit? If so, you might try using leveling blocks so that you are only extending them until they are at a 45 degree angle. That's supposed to be the most effective angle. If that doesn't work then you might take a look at the stabilizers made by Winfield RV Products. They make stabilizers for fifth wheel landing gear and sissor jacks. Installation of these is simple because they utilize existing mounting holes on your landing gear and sissor jacks. Their web site is www.winfieldrvproducts.com. I put them on the front of my Titanium fifth wheel and they have helped. A friend put them on his Jay Flight and they made his trailer rock solid.

RE: Diode lighting

I put some LED bulbs in the reading lights above the bed to cut down on the heat being generated and also to conserve some power. I did like the light color better, but I have since replaced them with the old bulbs because they didn't put out as much light as the regular bulb.
